I did a search on ELF SOUP. I got a large number of hits, but nothing that seems to work with this comic.
Santa needs to watch his waistline and avoid temptation to overeat, and he knows that Elf Soup traditonally only comes in small portions.
It’s pop culture shock therapy. The joke is Santa eats elves. Why would you expect any more or different?
Perhaps the elves are known to make a wonderful soup and he wants Mrs. C to get some for him from one of the elves? Sort of like the lord of the manor liking peasant soup.
