I wonder why Dr. Frankenstein needs feeding?

Luckily, I can’t understand the lyrics, but I would LOVE to have that humongous skeleton!

Non-Arlo… he brought a bag of candy into bed (you can see it in the third panel) and offered her one.

As far-fetched as woozy’s G-rated explanation is, adding a dialog bubble to the third panel for Arlo (“Trick or treat!“) would have cemented both interpretations.

Definitely an Arlo. But I keep getting hung up on the fact that Arlo is nearly always shown on the side of the bed closest to the viewer. It’s necessary for the framing of this strip, but it bugs me for some reason.

Respectfully disagree, woozy. It’s not a bag but the folded back top of the comforter. Arlo all the way, maybe. Actually, Arlo all the way given the Sunday strip.

terrencefeenstra. Of course, it’s an Arlo and of course it’s the comforter.

I just like rising to challenge of coming up with absurd explanations. And I rather like how (with a generous douse of imagination) the comforter in the third panel can be interpreted as a paper bag. They idea that Arlo is offering candy is not as absurd as some other non-Arlo explanations I’ve made up, but I like how logically it could flow.

“what is an “arlo”? the character arlo, or some defined archetype?”

Arlo, and Arlo page, and Arlo award refer to a comic that is distinctly sexual in nature (albeit not necessarily explicitly). It’s named after this strip which is *often* about sex. As this current strip (my futile and unsuccessful [and insincere] attempt at explaining otherwise not withstanding) clearly is.

I’m trying to think of anything Arlo Guthrie ever said or did that would put him into Arlo territory and I’m coming up with nothing.

Not even “…and makin’ a nuisance.”

Isn’t “Is my picture in the dictionary under gullible?” a reference to a comic discussed here recently?

Claiming that the Arlo tag refers to Arlo Guthry and saying “that’s my story and I’m sticking to it” is pretty dang funny. But I have to admit confusion as to what’s supposedly embarrassing in simply stating its named for the Arlo and Janice strip because that strip is *always* about sex.

@ woozy – It’s not about the old Calvin & Hobbes on that synchronicity post, it’s about the DSotH below it.

“Arlo award” is for when a comic slips some sexual innuendo past the editors.
