I agree with the “distracted boyfriend” theory. The characters are almost positioned exactly like it.

It was so obviously the Distracted Boyfriend that I caught that before even seeing the second hunchback. Even with both Frankensteins (Doctor and Monster) playing the role of the boyfriend, which could have confused the matter, with a less well defined meme.
