    I think it *wasn’t* a metaphor for sex. It *was* a conversation about bowling. Which is why it seemed oddly familiar. Because it was exactly like their conversations about sex.

    This conversation is oddly familiar. It is exactly like a conversation they have every once in a while, word for word except for the word “bowling”. You could just leave the word “bowling” out but then it would have to go straight to the A.P.

    I think it was about bowling. My wife and I have had almost the same conversation a couple of times. We go bowling, or some other activity which we enjoy but don’t do often, then realize we had fun and say that we should do it more often. But we don’t. Repeat as needed.

    Agree with above. Or, maybe they went bowling and had sex afterward, and Janis is referring to not bowling specifically, but going out and having fun, and then having sex afterward.

    I read this much the same way as That’s Me. This conversation is also something they have every time they go bowling and realize they enjoyed it. On the other hand, the one shot we saw of Janis bowling sure looked like she did forget how. On the gripping hand, you can’t convince me these two have sex so infrequently they would ever have this conversation about it.

    But on the fourth hand, it’s highly unlikely that these two could possibly be doing it as often as they talk about it.

    I think they had a highly similar conversation a while ago without the bowling reference. Arlo’s punchline was something like, “Remember when we didn’t have to say we should do it more often?”

    I’m reminded of a scene in “Annie Hall”.

    Annie’s therapist: “How often do you and Alvy have sex?”
    Annie: “Constantly! Three times a week!”

    Alvy’s therapist: “How often do you and Annie have sex?”
    Alvy: “Hardly ever! Three times a week.”
