So, what tense is “read” meant to be in? To put it another way, is it pronounced ‘reed’ or ‘red’?
(I think the notice saying “SEEN at” is in part what throws me off.)

It’s the past tense. The message has been read, as the guy can see, but not replied to. It’s left on read.
And I remember when “right on red” was the new thing!
