… but when I saw an article titled Caviar And Hummus, my first thought was of a little Russian malchik and his pet tigr.

That’d be a great name for a parody strip, nyet?
Where’s the “like” button here, Andréa?
Da, Andréa, my thought as well.
I wonder if we all could make something like that . . .
Well, include me out: I can’t draw well enough to parody xkcd.
I can’t even draw dot-to-dot, but drawing non-talent doesn’t preclude participation in parody; SOMEone has to be the brains!
I’m very artistic. I can draw criticism just about every day.
Now, what the heck are you guys discussing? I must confess CIDU Bill’s post.is a Comment I Don’t Understand.
Grawlix, the headline made me think “Russkie version of Calvin and Hobbes.”
Just as I hit the POST COMMENT button I was reminded of a nifty satirical book by Tom Weller titled CULTURE MADE STUPID (companion to his SCIENCE MADE STUPID)
Hopefully this link will go to the pertinent page, a great parody of How TO Draw books from decades past.
So if you want to draw a blank, or draw attention, this is for you:
For a bonus joke that slots into a discussion from a few days ago regarding San Serif, see the little map found on the page hopefully linked above. (P.81)
Both books are long out of print (I so happen to have them both in paper) but they can be found online:
In other news the page link I was trying to post turned into a hotlink for the page image. Interesting.
Fosdick was a parody of Dick Tracy in Li’l Abner – any relevance to these ‘How to Draw . . . ” books? Or is that just a geezer reference that came to my mind at 6 a.m.?
@Grawlix: How is it I never heard of Tom Weller?? Those books are from the mid 80s, and his artwork is superb; I’m chuckling aloud at most pages as I read through Science Made Stupid. Why was he not a contributor to Mad? Why does he not even have a Wikipedia page?? This stuff would have been (and still is) right up my alley; how is it I was not aware of it back in the day??
While Tom Weller does not have a Wikipedia page, both of the books cited here do:
They look like precursors of the ‘. . . for Idiots’ books, or parodies thereof before they were invented/published. Maybe he had a time machine??
thank you for those PDFs . . .
I still have Science Made Stupid somewhere. I always thought it was hilarious. I’ve never heard of Culture Made Stupid. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for this!

Thanks from me, too, Grawlix!
