It looks like the dad’s dreaming about naked beach volleyball, and the kid is saying his final line in an exasperated tone. I read it like this: ‘Daaaaaad, they…didn’t…have…beach…volleyball….oooookkkaaayyyy? Sheesh!’ Makes it work for me.

I don’t know if it actually makes any difference to the reading – but the “kid” is an adult, with a child in school (she’s not present in this particular strip). Other than that, I agree with Stan.
BTW, ESPN the magazine (which I have no idea why it exists) does an annual “Body” issue with tastefully naked athletes, male and female. So it ain’t just me.
It’s from 6 years ago, actually. I think the date says 2012, which makes sense because Misty May-Treanor didn’t participate in the 2016 Games. Kerri Walsh-Jennings had a different partner that year.
As Billy Bob notes, there were no female Olympians back then. Unless this is telling us something about the dad…
BTW, within the overall family constellation of this strip, these guys are the grandpa and the dad.
