The joke is that it seems to be Barney dreaming about flying, but it turns out to be Clyde dreaming about catching him like a fly.

When people dream of flying, they never dream about the problems that real flying animals have… running into windows or windmills or just really strong headwinds, or, as in this case, spiderwebs spun by a spider big enough to be threatening.

The final kicker is that most people dreaming about flying consider it a happy dream, but Barney there saw it as a nightmare all along.

One man’s dream is another man’s nightmare. It’s simply a pun on whether “fly dream” is about flight, or becoming an insect.

Fly (verb) and Fly (noun) makes a pun. I don’t think it is Clyde’s dream. I think it is Barney’s. People like this idea of dreaming about flying and have happy, sometimes euphoric, memories of those they have but its actually very rare and hard to dream about flying and becomes rarer the older you get. When one does dream about flying its often ephemeral with constant problems and failings a frequent one being just as it is going well, you start falling and can’t manage to get flying again.

    YMMV.
