I can only assume your interpretation is correct, and the colorist didn’t get the memo. Not much of a joke.

I’m guessing the work quota doesn’t leave the colorist much time to actually read and digest the comic, and since “Ginger” and “beard” don’t actually appear in the text of the cartoon…

I get this in my deadtree paper, where the comics are in black and white. I had to spend a couple minutes of my life that I’ll never get back wondering what the joke is, until I finally realized that it was a pun on “ginger beard” and that the creators apparently assumed everyone would be seeing the panel in color. So I’m sort of snarkily pleased to find out that those of you who *did* first see it in color didn’t have any advantage on me after all. . .

What’s a Gingerbread *MAN*? According to Tammy Bruce, no-one is allowed to say “Gingerbread Man” so I’m very confused that someone is saying that here.

I knew this one was ending up here when I saw it in the morning paper. (in black/white) I was wondering which auto correct turned garbage man to gingerbread man. Just saw the coveralls, not the beard…It was all I could connect without the correct color.

Well, when I saw it on GoComics early this morning, it WAS the correct color; I knew it would end up here anyway, so I didn’t bother Bill with it. You’re welcome.

The fun part about the correction is in the comments at GoComics: at first everyone is complaining about the incorrect color, but at the end they are completely confused about why people were complaining.

Manhatten/Manhattan was in Mother Goose and Grimm. I get it via Arcamax. I can’t find it on GoComics. Do you have a link?

I still want to know who the heck Ashton is and why he/she thought it was worth noting the visit be the Gingerbeard Man. For that matter I wonder what the heck the kids thought a visit from the Gingerbread Man was or why it’d be so exiting.

Sorry, Arthur, my mistake, Mother Goose & Grimm is a different syndicate (so not on GoComics), but it has still not been fixed at grimmy.com:

@ woozy – Ashton is probably meant to be an older brother or uncle. The kids are excited because they expect to get something edible from the visitor.

The two look a bit guilty, if you ask me. GingerBeard and the woman, I mean. Was some hanky-panky going on, and if so, why were the kids ‘lured’ home? I dunno . . . the whole comic is a CIDU for me, still.

” For that matter I wonder what the heck the kids thought a visit from the Gingerbread Man ”

Like the Ice Cream Man, only not in summertime.
