She decided to try walking in the morning instead of in the evening. She walked longer than usual because she times her walk by the setting sun.

It’s not a DST gag, since in the Monday strip Arlo got her up early in line with her stated (but possible not serious) desire to start walking in the morning. My guess was that she normally navigates by where the sun is and so found herself walking in the wrong direction.
She times her walk by how close the sun is to setting.
But since it’s morning, the sun is not close to setting, and she just kept going.
