B.A.: Is the joke the fact that Janis used the word “mob,” which normally would be something the Monster wouldn’t welcome?

I think the joke is Arlo is disappointed there aren’t many trick or treaters. It does seem to be universal that there are fewer and fewer each year.
The use of the word “mob” may have been part of the joke but my initial thought was not. But maybe it was. It’s not essential to the joke in my opinion.
Frankenstein’s monster feels incomplete without a (presumably angry) mob chasing him?
I think the joke is that Frankenstein’s Monster wouldn’t normally welcome a mob. I agree that Arlo is disappointed there aren’t many trick or treaters, but Arlo being disappointed doesn’t make a joke.
“but Arlo being disappointed doesn’t make a joke.”
I guess not. … Although somehow it worked for me… Not sure why. I’m usually more critical.
I think the “mob” should have been made a *teensy* bit more overt if it were the joke.
woozy: It worked OK for me, but only because of the “mob.” (Although the visual in panel 3 is also pretty good.)
I didn’t even notice the use of “mob”. I just that the sad look on the mask and on Arlos face was enough.
Or he’s got a bit planned where he shrinks in fear from the “mob” so he needs some . . . mobsters?
I laughed Because of the word mob. otherwise there is no joke.
Grawlix has it. Arlo wants to stay in character, he doesn’t event want to take off the mask.

And, as we see from today’s strip, he continues to want to stay in character. (Has Jimmy gone to one too many comics conventions?) https://www.gocomics.com/arloandjanis/2018/11/03
^^ Looks like Janis is willing to entertain a bit of cosplay there.
