It’s definitely worth a groan, but the joke is not quite complete. It’s clear that they are all looking at art, but there’s no credible explanation as to why they are all wearing gas masks. Do the paintings stink? Or was the museum cafeteria serving chili con carne? And why didn’t anyone think to change the “P” to an “F” in this strip’s title?

I don’t think the joke hinges on whether this is an exhibit of things that are artsy as well as things that are fartsy, or if it is an exhibit of things that are both artsy and fartsy. Either interpretation works.
Museum or Gallery, either would probably not go for a scratch-n-sniff exhibition.
Maybe more on the analogue of smell-o-vision.
@ Mitch4 – Scratch & sniff is a hilarious idea, but I can’t think of a way to depict it that would make it identifiable (other than adding a clumsy sign or caption).
Until I read KILBY, I thought they were dogs . . . sure hope my new glasses come in soon!
