Lots of differences from the one we’ve been using. Clears up some of the drawbacks, but it’s got a bit of a learning curve.
Testing the “link” thing: Bill Bickel’s Crimeweek.
For now, this is a 24-hour experiment.

I like the appearance, but the lack of “Recent comments” in the sidebar is a pretty big negative for me.
Okay, see, that’s where “learning curve” comes in: non-intuitively, you have to click the “folder” icon in the sidebar to get the Recent Comments.
Is that really something they expect people to realize?
The link to BB’s Crimeweek worked.
It is easy to click on the comments for the comic.
I agree with WW that “recent comments” on the side would be nice.
I like that we can still have our little picture, wish more people would use one.
Should it say “Leave A Comment” instead of “Reply”?
Click the “folders” icon in the sidebar to make Recent Comments magically appear.
Cool, thanks, Bill! Everyone who looks at this thread will know how to do that, the others will not. Too bad for them!
Your response to WW had not posted when I started typing my previous comment.
That “click on the icon” to get to the recent comments may be new for desktop users, but it was also required by the prior template on all of the mobile devices that I tested.
This template solves the “infinite page length problem”, the “invisible link” problem, and (as far as I can see) the hyphenation issue. I would say that it is (by far) the best template we’ve had so far, and I would applaud (loudly) if the “experiment” lasted far longer than 24 hours.
The fact that the former posts are now on several pages is a plus.
The 2 tabs on the left are a bit of a joke: they could be merged into one, but I don’t mind.
Still no numbered comments… (it reminds me of the time Bug Martini changed its template: people where screaming for the “random” button to be back).
Mona: creating these “little pictures” involves too much hassle for computer illiterates like me ;) . I thought that double-clicking on the little picture next to my email would be enough, I was expecting something like “choose a picture on this (=my) computer” but instead, I have to create accounts and whatnot. Plus: I like my leafy crown.
I think I’m a fan of this template. The typeface is large enough for my old eyes and the design is simple. No objection here.
(I posted in Misc Comments before seeing this here. Hope nobody minds me copying and pasting myself!)
I don’t really care for the ALLCAPS styling (even if it’s actually small caps) I’m the latest Theme.
(Is there in fact a new theme today, or am I just late in noticing its phone appearance as I’ve been at the desktop during the weekend?)
Now on computer, I still don’t like the ALLCAPS in this theme, but they don’t stand out as much as when it was displayed on the phone.
In case it’s unclear where I’m seeing this, let’s copy-cite an instance, and at the same time see what a blockquote looks like in this theme. (Yeah, I could look for an earlier on, but don’t recall one offhand).
P.S. I very much do like the elegant sans-serif main font!
“The King won’t need his eyeglasses to read this,” as John Hancock didn’t actually say.
For the record, I fixed the “infinite page length” problem a few minutes before I changed the template — so that fix should be permanent.
They might or might not allow me to change the font size.
Rather attractive, and doesn’t seem to push comics off the right hand of the screen, or shrink them in a way that makes them unreadable (WordPress should sell gocomics whatever their algorithm for that is, I dropped several comics when they moved navigation to beside the comic), so…thumbs up so far…
Thanks, Bill – I like it better being able to see the recent comments without clicking on the folder, but it’s only a minor negative. It seems outweighed by the other positive changes. How does boldface look? What about https://www.theonion.com/? What about
(I know others have already tested these, just not sure if they did the tags in the way that I’m used to.)
If nothing else, the fact that I can tell that the link is a link outweighs all else. But that wasn’t what I wanted the link to look like. Maybe I made a typo, trying again: visible link text
Yep, just a typo. I vote for the new template.
Can I include pictures of lolcats in my comments? lolcat
lolcat
I think that “embedding” feature only works for raw-URLs that go directly to the image:

I like this template.
Thanks, Kilby. Like this?
Olivier, your leafy crown is very nice!
I think the font is too big, requiring a lot of extra scrolling, but I’ll accept it for the sake of folks like Bill (MARCH 5, 2018 AT 8:08 AM). … Mona, you look something like Jessica Rabbit! … It’s good that the site “remembers” my name and addy, but I wish the “Notify me of new comments via email” tickbox would remember its last setting as well. Again, a petty concern.
I do not think the font is too big, I like it and vote to keep it. It works well on my laptop, computer and phone.
Boise Ed, you’re not the first to mention the resemblance.
“I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way.” 😘
I like the fact that the comment links are to the side of the comic, rather than above it. The previous iteration seemed to require more scrolling.
In 2018, the fact that it looks good on phones is a big plus.
Thanks, Mona. You see, it sort of fits since “Rollanz est proz e Olivers est sages”.
Sorry, Olivier, you are going to have to translate that line for us. I couldn’t get anything sensible from Bing or Google.
So, when the computers try to overthrow us, we can secretly communicate in old French.
“Roland is courageous, but Olivier is wise”.
I am getting used to the new template. It isn’t too bad.
I do know that you have misplaced you contact info again, Bill.
Contact info is in the sidebar, which appears (non-intuitively) when you click the “folder” icon at the top left.
Bill,it is fine with me. I also like the comments, etc on the side instead of on top. I found the type a bit large for my computer – but two taps of ctrl+fn+- solved it for me and is easy enough to do.
As for the learning curve of where and how things work – I have filed over the past couple of days sales tax returns on the NYS tax site – not a new thing, I use same to file 6 sales tax returns a year – still cannot figure out how anything work, there are things which have done two or three times and it takes starting over to try again. I could not even figure out how to log out! This site is a dream in comparison.
